DRIVER HITS 100-YR-OLD WOMAN PEDESTRIAN ON NORTH YORK SIDEWALK

A 100-year-old woman remains in life-threatening condition in hospital after being hit by a driver in the Steeles Avenue – Leslie Street neighbourhood mid-day Tuesday.
Police say she was walking on the sidewalk of Steeles approaching Bluffwood Drive when a 64-year-old male motorist was making a right-hand turn onto Steeles.

Traffic Services Supt. Scott Baptist says the investigation is trying to determine if the driver was making the turn on a red light, and if the woman was hit in the crosswalk.
Any local residents or businesses with security camera footage, or drivers with dash cam images are being asked to contact police.
So far this year there have been 15 deaths on city streets; 11 involving pedestrians.
Last year, 29 of 63 traffic fatalities in Toronto were pedestrians.
