Prime Minisiter Justin Trudeau labels comments by Russia’s Foreign Minister as “ridiculous and unacceptable”. Minister Sergey Lavrov claimed that Ukraine could still have Nazi elements even if some figures, including President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, were Jewish. And added that “Hitler also had Jewish origins, so it doesn’t mean anything.”

Israel says Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s remarks are anti-Semitic and dangerous.

“The fact that Russia, as we’ve seen, has been pedaling disinformation that’s reached a point that shouldn’t surprise us anymore but what the Russian foreign minister just said, is unbelievable,” said Trudeau speaking to reporters in Windsor.

“Canadians stand united against the horrors of the Holocaust and with the tremendously concerning rise in hate crimes, we need to stand condemning ever stronger, the ridiculous and unacceptable positions of Russia even as we stand with Ukraine,” added Trudeau.

Meantime, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister says the `”heinous” remarks are offensive to Zelenskyy, Ukraine, Israel, and the Jewish people.

Israel’s Holocaust memorial called the remarks absurd, delusional and dangerous and said Lavrov is turning the victims of the Holocaust into criminals, on the basis of promoting a completely unfounded claim that Hitler was of Jewish descent.
