Public transit commuters would be able to ride any transit system for just $1 until January 2024, if the Liberals are elected to govern one month from now.
”Unlike Doug Ford’s broken promise of ‘buck-a-beer,’ we will deliver ‘buck-a-ride’ for all transit riders,” Leader Steven Del Duca said in making the promise, which would apply to every transit system.
”Under our plan, someone hopping on the GO train from Oakville to head in for a Blue Jays game will save nearly $20 on their round trip.
And a commuter taking the GO from Whitby to Toronto would save more than $300 a-month.”
Del Duca says the pledge would cost $1.1-billion next year and take about 400,000 vehicles off the road every day.
NDP Leader Andrea Horwath is not buying what the Liberals are selling.
”Unfortunately Steven Del Duca didn’t do that when he was the transportation minister in our province, then he could have,” she said.
Horwath adds the Liberals had many opportunities over 15-years to make positive change.
The NDP leader was responding after announcing her party would reduce wait times for health care by accelerating the credentials of 15,000 internationally educated nurses, and guarantee 2,000 nursing jobs immediately by investing $60-million to expand the Nursing Graduate Guarantee program.
