Aging buildings facing Parliament Hill are getting a $430-million dollar face lift.

Toronto firm Zeidler Architecture and David Chipperfield Architects of Britain won the competition with their design for a rectangular, neo-classical style building with distinctive copper window facades.

The Terry Fox statue will be moved to another prominent location to make way for the new building that will house M-Ps and senators, committee rooms and an Indigenous Peoples’ space.

The upcoming redesign of entire block across Wellington Street from Parliament Hill would bring courtyards, atriums and a new public square to downtown Ottawa while preserving heritage buildings.

The redesign includes office space for the Senate, House of Commons and Indigenous Peoples’ Space.
