With 13 days until the election, three of the party leaders are offering different takes on how to deal with prices at the pumps.
The NDP’s Andrea Horwath’s proposing to regulate them and to set a weekly price.
”By regulating the wholesale and retail price, we’ll make sure that what you pay is fair and nothing more,” Horwath promises.
”We’re going to have the Ontario Energy Board set the maximum price each week, not greedy gas companies.”
Liberal Leader Steven Del Duca says regulating gas prices doesn’t work.

The Ontario Energy Board commissioned a report that found in 2017 that regulation does not necessarily benefit consumers … and in some provinces, it’s actually resulted in higher prices.

Before the election was called, the governing Conservatives passed legislation to implement a 5.7-cent cut to the gas tax for six months, starting July 1st.

The NDP promise to repeal that, while the Liberals say they’d keep it in place.
