There’s a new development in COVID-19 vaccination.

U.S. health experts are urging parents to get their kids aged 5 to 11 a third shot, or booster, of COVID vaccine.

The advice comes a day after the U.S. Centers of Disease Control and Prevention gave the go-ahead for 5 to 11 year olds to get the Pfizer booster shot.

Health Canada tends to follow the guidance of the CDC, so it likely won’t be long before we hear of the same recommendation for 5 to 11 kids in this country.

Doctor Ashish Jha with the White House says they are also looking into getting approval for vaccines for children under the age of five.

“FDA is reviewing data from Moderna. My expectation is that that review is going to get done in the next couple of weeks, and I’m hoping we’ll have an answer soon thereafter,” Dr. Jha explained.

The U.S. is now averaging about 100,000 new cases a day for the first time since February.

Here in Ontario, the 6th wave of COVID-19 is waning but people who are eligible for 3rd and 4th shots are encouraged to get them as soon as possible.
