The province’s special investigations unit has invoked its mandate after Toronto Police shot and killed a man carrying a weapon outside a school in Scarborough yesterday.
Police Chief James Ramer says officers were alerted to a person with a gun around one o’clock in the afternoon. He says the officers were confronted and the person died at the scene.
There were no injuries at William G. Davis Elementary School.
Four schools near Maberley Crescent and Oxhorn Road were temporarily on lock down while police investigated.
The SIU has confirmed the weapon found at the scene was a BB gun.
