Most remaining mandatory mask rules in Ontario will be lifted on Saturday.

The province’s chief medical officer Dr. Kieran Moore says the mandate will end for public transit, but will still be required in long-term care homes and retirement homes.

Mask requirements for health workers will also expire Saturday and be replaced by provincial guidance on when masks should be worn in hospitals and other health workplaces.

But University Health Network says in a statement that masks will be still required for everyone at their sites because they care for immune compromised patients.

Other hospitals rejecting the call to lift masks include SicksKids,  Humber River and Sunnybrook where masks will remain in place.

Chief medical officer Dr. Kieran Moore says masks are still “strongly recommended” in high-risk congregate settings like group homes and shelters.

Meantime, Quebec is lifting its mask mandate for public transit June 18thbut remain mandatory in hospitals, long-term care homes and other health-care centres.

And in Israel, officials are warning of another COVID wave as both the Prime Minister and Health Minister hold off on any new restrictions for now. As cases rise, indoor masking is being recommended and the head of Israel’s vaccine roll out says a 5th dose may be needed for some sectors of the population.
