There is a help wanted sign out at the Paris Opera Ballet as the 350-year old company loses its second director in the past six years.

Aurélie Dupont has resigned as of July 31st to devote herself to personal projects, including book and documentary film and to spend more time with her family.

In 2018, during the 49-year old former star’s tenure as director, the company was plunged into crisis when the results of an anonymous questionnaire about dancers’ views on the company were leaked to the French media. 77% of the dancers who responded said they had experienced or witnessed verbal harassment, while 26% said they had experienced or witnessed sexual harassment.

Dupont also had to cope with the pandemic shutting the ballet for long stretches and a dancer’s strike.

A committee is being formed to search for a replacement.
