Former FIFA soccer executives Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini have been acquitted of corruption charges following an 11-day trial in Switzerland.
After a comprehensive six-year investigation, Swiss prosecutors last November officially accused Blatter of approving an illicit payment of more than $2 million to Platini in 2011.
The 86-year-old Blatter served as President of soccer’s world governing body for 17 years and Platini was his right-hand man.
Platini, 67, is a former star for the French national team. He was in line to replace Blatter before both men were barred from the sport for unethical conduct… a ban that ended last year.
