Retired general Rick Hillier says Canada’s decision to allow the newly repaired Russian turbines to go back to Germany may undermine the global effort to punish Russia for the war.

While avoiding answering questions on that decision, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says allies will continue to push back on the illegal Russian actions.

“Russia will not succeed at either weaponizing its energy or dividing our allies among ourselves as we are focused on being there to support Ukraine,” said Trudeau. “This decision was a difficult one but it was the right one to ensure that we continue to all stand together.”

He made the comment in B-C where he announced an extension of the government’s ocean protection plan. The government pledged $2B in the latest budget for the plan.

He says the government is making the investments because the former Conservative government closed coast guard stations, ignored partnerships with Indigenous Peoples and fired scientists. .
