American actor and director Tony Dow has not died, despite earlier reports from his verified Facebook account and from the verified Twitter account of Jerry Mathers. Both those messages were later taken off social media.
As of late Tuesday afternoon Dow’s management team released a report stating that he is alive but living in hospice care.
Despite a long career both in-front-of… and behind… the camera, Dow is best remembered for playing Wally Cleaver, older brother of Theodore Cleaver on the hit 1950s television comedy Leave it to Beaver.
Although he spent much of his adult career in the director’s chair, he did appear in later years on television in various guest-starring roles, including shows such as Adam-12, Love American Style, Knight Rider, Square Pegs, The Mod Squad, The Hardy Boys, and Emergency!
