He was a much loved member of the Zoomer Radio team from 2002 to 2012 and passionate about the history of Toronto.

Mike Filey died of prostate cancer Saturday at the age of 80.

His show on Zoomer Radio was called Mike Filey’s Toronto and of his many books Toronto, The Way We Were served up the best of his stories on everything from the Royal York Hotel, the Flatiron Building, Massey Hall, the Palais Royale and the Canadian National Exhibition.

The book also includes Mike’s descriptions of streetcar rides through Cabbagetown, the Annex, Rosedale and Little Italy and trips down memory lane with Mary Pickford, Glenn Miller, Bob Hope and Ed Mirvish.

Zoomer Radio’s Gene Stevens was a dear friend of Mike Filey and will have more to say about the late Toronto historian when he joins Liz West on the Afternoon Express on Zoomer Radio Wednesday after the 2pm news.
