A legendary, British-born photographer, writer and counter-culture documenter, who chronicled the War in Vietnam has died.

Tim Page was described as one of the world’s great war photographers as well as a “real humanist” who’s most famous line was ‘the only good war photograph is an anti-war photograph.”

Page was wounded four times in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia during the 1960s and ’70s and embraced and documented the drug culture in the United States; once getting arrested with Jim Morrison when the Doors front man was famously dragged off a stage in New Haven, Connecticut by police in 1967.

His work appeared in Rolling Stone where writers like Hunter S. Thompson. Page embraced his “Gonzo photographer” reputation.  He also wrote a dozen books about his war experiences and music.

Tim Page died of of liver cancer yesterday at his home in Australia.

He was 78.
