Britain’s new prime minister has ruled out a windfall tax on oil companies to pay for her plans to tackle the energy crisis.
Truss underscored her opposition to the tax during her first session of prime minister’s questions in the House of Commons on Wednesday.
She also held her first cabinet meeting after her appointment as prime minister by the Queen on Tuesday.
Former Ontario Liberal Premier David Peterson is commenting on the change from Boris Johnson to Liz Truss.
He told Zoomer Radio’s Fight Back with Libby Znaimer, it’s no mercy in the British House of Commons.
“Boris at least had some magic,” Peterson explained, “I think she’s going to have a tough time getting beaten up in the Commons. It’s a very tough place to debate.”
Truss has put her own stamp on the UK’s Great Offices of State.
For the first time, none of the positions is held by a white man.
She named Kwasi Kwarteng as Britain’s first black treasury chief. James Cleverly, whose mother is from Sierra Leone, is foreign secretary. And Suella Braverman, who has Indian heritage, is home secretary.
