13 was the lucky number Tuesday night in Toronto as that number of the city’s restaurants were bestowed with prestigious Michelin stars; the first Canadian eateries to receive that kind of global recognition.
Michelin’s international director told a special event in Toronto that 12 of the 13 are being awarded a single star, with Sushi Masaki Saito receiving two.
Here is a list of the restaurants that received one Michelin star:
•Aburi Hana
•Alo
•Alobar Yorkville
•Don Alfonso 1890
•Edulis
•Enigma Yorkville
•Frilu
•Kaiseki Yu-zen Hashimoto
•Osteria Giulia
•Quetzal
•Shoushin
•Yukashi
In addition, 17 received the “Bib Gourmand” designation, which recognizes quality food at reasonable prices.
This award recognizes good quality, good value restaurants where diners can have two courses and a glass of wine or dessert for less than $60 CAD.

Inspectors anonymously checked out the city’s culinary establishments in May.
Toronto Mayor John Tory calls this is a “a big deal” that will put Toronto on the map one more time, in one more way.
The 13 Toronto restaurants are the first in Canada to be included in the Michelin guide, but the company plans on adding Vancouver in the months to come.
