Eleven days after Her Majesty’s death, Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral at Westminster Abbey has come to an end and her coffin was then taken on a gun carriage for a last procession through the heart of London.

The coffin was followed in lock step by King Charles III and his siblings, along with Prince William, Prince Harry and their cousin Peter Phillips.

The route was lined by the armed forces, the procession formed in seven groups, each supported by a service band. And the mounties of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police lead this procession, followed immediately by representatives of the George Cross Association from Malta, and others including the National Health Services of the United Kingdom and detachments from the armed forces of The Commonwealth.

The site of her state funeral this morning, Westminster Abbey is also where then Princess Elizabeth was married in 1947, and 6 years later crowned Queen in an elaborate coronation the year after the death of her father, King George VI.

In the minutes before today’s state funeral, bagpipes played as soldiers in bear skin hats and 142 Royal Navy sailors escorted the Queen’s coffin from Westminster Hall, where the queen lay in state for four full days for people to pay their respects ahead of her funeral.

The funeral was led by the Dean of Westminster David Hoyle, and the sermon delivered by the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby.

The Queen’s coffin was surrounded by 2000 mourners inside, including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife Sophie Gregoire Trudeau and Governor General Mary Simon and her husband Whit Fraser.

Monday’s itinerary ends 10 days of tributes and mourning, following which the Queen’s coffin is being taken to Windsor Castle, where she’ll be buried at St George’s Chapel alongside the late Prince Philip, her husband of almost 74 years.
