‘The Boss’ is taking on the work of the Four Tops, Temptations, Supremes and other soul legends for a covers album due out in November.

Bruce Springsteen says he wanted to make an album where he just sang. Only the Strong Survive is a 15-song disc that also covers the work of The Walker Brothers, Dobie Gray and Frankie Wilson.

Those who’ve seen his live shows know that he’ll frequently pull out a soul cover or two, particularly on the encores.

The 73-year-old singer and his E Street Band are heading out on tour in February.
