Help continues to pour into Florida’s hardest hit regions, especially along its Gulf Coast.

First responders and Good Samaritans are going door to door on Pine Island, a large barrier island about 30-kilometres west of Fort Myers, offering to evacuate residents from flooded homes.

Authorities in Florida have now confirmed 47 deaths from the hurricane, in addition to four in North Carolina and three in Cuba.

Meantime, power in Atlantic Canada continues to slowly flicker back to life a week after post-tropical storm Fiona ravaged the region.

Thousands of customers — especially in Nova Scotia and P-E-I — are still waiting to be reconnected to the grid.

N-S Power says more than 15-hundred workers are ramping up efforts to reconnect areas mainly in eastern Nova Scotia and Cape Breton.

Still, officials in both provinces warn it could take into this week before nearly all customers have electricity again.
