A new report by Ontario Health reveals there’s a crisis in Ontario emergency departments.

Leaked by the Opposition at Queens Park, Liberal health critic Dr. Adil Shamji says it finds that 9 in 10 patients in the ER waited up to 12 hours  — the highest it’s ever been.

“And if we look at admitted patients , the data is even worse,” warned Dr. Shamji. “For that population, 9 in 10 patients completed their stay in the ER within 44.1 hours, nearly two days, which represents a 48.2% increase compared to the August 2022.”

Zoomer Radio’s Fight Back host Libby Znaimer asked GTA emergency room physician Dr. Stephen Flindall how bad the situation has become.

“Significantly worse, there have been days when I’ve gone in for a shift and basically every acute care bed we have in the department is occupied by an admitted patient so we’re trying to shoehorn patients into almost like non clinical areas.”

Dr. Flindall says the increase in pediatric patients is “quite striking” and suggests a return to masking during cold and flu season.

Meantime the Liberals say the new data strongly contradicts Doug Ford’s narrative that emergency departments are not in crisis.
