In response to a request from the Haitian government for the quick deployment of foreign troops, the federal government has dispatched armoured vehicles and other supplies to Haiti to aid police in their fight against a formidable gang.

Canada and the United States collaborated on the coordinated supply.

Millions of people are struggling to get fuel and water in Haiti, which is immobilized due to a standoff between the government and a potent gang federation that is testing the extent of each side’s power.

In a joint statement with the United States, Canada stated that it remained devoted to helping the Haitian National Police and its efforts to hire more personnel.

The equipment’s arrival comes more than a month after one of Haiti’s most powerful gangs surrounded a petroleum terminal and demanded Prime Minister Ariel Henry’s resignation.

Following Henry’s announcement in early September that his administration could no longer afford to subsidize fuel, protesters have also blocked roads in key cities in an effort to draw attention to the dramatic increase in fuel costs.
