Ontario’s education minister says there’s one way to try to avoid a planned walkout by education workers Friday.
”Take the strike off the table and let’s talk,” says Stephen Lecce.
”What we’re insisting upon, on behalf of the people of this province, is that they take Friday’s threat off the table.
That is not a preposterous ask of the union.
It’s fairly quite common and reasonable,” the education minister adds.
CUPE negotiators presented a counter-offer late Tuesday night.
The union has not revealed the details.
The province has introduced a bill, currently being debated in the legislature, and is hoping to pass it this week to impose a contract on the 55,000 education workers and ban them from striking with the threat of fines.
