The usually forgotten prince in the royal family says he’s rapidly becoming an essential part of the arts scene after being named the royal patron of the Reading Repertory Theatre.

The company opened its new 163-seat theatre and cultural hub at a former Salvation Army hall last year after raising more than two million dollars for the project

Prince Edward says he’s looking forward to helping reinforce the theatre’s work in the local community and to supporting its future endeavours.

Edward, Earl of Wessex, is also patron of the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain and the Northern Ballet.  He has a background in theatre having worked as a production assistant at Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Really Useful Theatre Company.
