Prince Edward Island carpenter and and novelist Nicholas Herring and Toronto epidemiologist Dan Werb were the big winners at last night’s Writer’s Trust Awards.

Herring won the $60-thousand Atwood Gibson Prize for fiction with his debut novel “Some Hellish.”  It follows a lobster fisher whose unhappily monotonous life is upended by a series of extraordinary events.

Werb, took home the $60-thousand attached to the non-fiction award for “The Invisible Siege: The Rise of Coronaviruses and the Search for a Cure.’  It traces the history of coronavirus research from the 1980s to the present day.

The Writer’s Trust, held its first in person “Story Teller’s Gala” last night in Toronto since the on set of the pandemic.
