She’s being remembered as one of the the giants of Brazilian popular music.
Gal Costa, who rose to fame in the 1960s when she spearheaded the Tropicália movement, has died.
No cause was given although she had recently canceled several concerts after an operation but had planned to return to the stage next month in São Paulo.
The country’s president-elect paid tribute calling Costa one of the world’s greatest singers who put Brazil and Brazilian music, on the world map.
Gal Costa was 77.
