It’s been 104 years since the guns fell silent on World War One, and 80 years since 900 Canadian Soldiers died in the Dieppe Raid of World War Two.

And on this November 11th, we remember the ultimate sacrifice given by soldiers in both World Wars and all wars since then, Afghanistan, most recently.

The day begins in Toronto as it does every November 11th with the sunrise ceremony at Prospect Ceremony, beginning at 7:30.

Then at 10:45, several ceremonies begin.

Mayor John Tory and Ontario’s Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Dowdeswell will speak at the City of Toronto ceremony at Old City Hall.

There are also City-run Remembrance Day Services at the same time at East York Civic Centre Memorial Gardens, Etobicoke Civic Centre Cenotaph, Fort York National Historic Site, Meridian Arts Centre, Scarborough War Memorial, and the York Civic Centre Cenotaph.

The Ontario government’s annual ceremony will be held outside the Legislative building at Queen’s Park, also at 10:45.

Northwest from the province’s ceremony, at Hart House’s Soldiers’ Tower, the University of Toronto will host its Service of Remembrance ceremony at 10:20 a.m. Anyone who wants to watch this particular service online will have to register in advance.

The Toronto Zoo will host its annual Remembrance Day ceremony at its Waterside Theatre, starting at 10:55 a.m., but will be closing its doors 10 minutes earlier.

And in Ottawa, the traditional veterans’ parade returns to the national ceremony at the National War Memorial, which begins at 10:30.

Dignitaries include Veterans Affairs Minister Lawrence MacAulay.

Also attending will be Governor General Mary Simon and National Silver Cross Mother Candy Greff.

On both Zoomer Radio and The New Classical FM, there is also special Remembrance Day programming throughout the day, along with a moment of silence at 11am.
