When you are an iconic music legend, you can get away with just about anything, including stopping traffic in Manhattan to sing one more farewell tune.

Just 43 hours after Sir Elton John bid a spectacular, permanent, no-turning-back farewell to North America with a three-night run at LA’s Dodger Stadium, he played “Your Song” in the middle of Fifth Avenue.

That’s right! Elton briefly stopped traffic in front of Saks Fifth Avenue, on one of the busiest commercial stretches in the United States, to recognize the store’s donation of $1 million to the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

New York Police actually blocked the street, while a grand piano was wheeled out to a stream of honking buses and taxis.

We’re told “Your Song” was the 75-year old music legend’s choice because it was his first hit in the US and it’s two minutes shorter than “Tiny Dancer.”
