John Di Nino, Canadian President of the Amalgamated Transit Union says his 66-year-old wife Doreen remains in serious condition in hospital after extensive surgery and has a long recovery ahead.

“I was there when the gunman targeted my wife, I just keep seeing everything over and over again,” said an emotional Di Nino. “It was really nightmarish and we’ve asked for counselling to get the support we need.”

Police are looking to determine the motive but court documents show the condo board took a man by the same name as the suspected gunman – 73-year-old Francesco Villi – to court 2018 seeking a restraining order over his allegedly threatening behaviour.

Police have now identified the five killed in the mass shooting. 57-year-old Rita Camilleri – 79-year-old Vittorio Panza – 75-year-old Russell Manock – 71-year-old Helen Manock and 59-year-old Naveed Dada.
