There is word from the Russian military that unauthorized use of cell phones by Russian soldiers led to Sunday’s deadly Ukrainian rocket attack on the facility where they were stationed in eastern Ukraine.

In raising the death toll to 89, a Russian general said Tuesday night, phone signals allowed Ukrainian forces to “determine the co-ordinates of the location of military personnel” and launch a strike.

On Zoomer Radio’s Fight Back with Libby Znaimer Tuesday, a panel of experts discussed this unprecedented strike which the Ukrainians say killed several hundred.

Roman Waschuk is a former Canadian ambassador to Ukraine and says he sees this attack as existing trends becoming more visible to the outside observer.

“If we look at how the Ukrainians pushed the Russians out of Kherson in November, very similar use of HIMARS, which are extremely targeted. They fall within a couple of metres of where they are supposed to go, which means if you’ve got the intel, and there are a lot of people in those areas who don’t like the Russians and pass along info. If you’ve got the western world satellite intel, you can pinpoint Russian activities and take out command posts, Waschuk explained.

Sunday’s attack in the Russian-occupied eastern Donetsk region was one of the deadliest on the Kremlin’s forces since the start of Vladimir Putin’s Russian war over 10 months ago.
