According to Statistics Canada’s report released on Friday, the Canadian economy added 104,000 jobs in December, while the unemployment rate slightly decreased to 5.0%.
The unemployment rate has already decreased three times in four months, bringing it ever-closer to the record-low of 4.9% attained in June and July.
In its latest labour force survey, the federal agency said the rise in employment was driven by an increase in full-time work.
Last month, there were more people working in the private sector overall thanks to job improvements across all sectors.
Meanwhile, the public sector’s employment remained stable.
For the eighth consecutive month, wages increased by more than 5.0% on a yearly basis, with wages up 5.1%.
