A 43-year-old Toronto woman faces several charges, including one of attempted murder, after a 23-year-old woman was stabbed several times Tuesday afternoon on the Spadina streetcar.
Police say Leah Valdez does not know the victim, who was taken to hospital with serious head and face injuries.
Saying we’re facing a ”mental health crisis across Canada,” the ”effects” of which the mayor says we’re seeing ”in Toronto every day,” John Tory thinks mayors, premiers, ministers and the prime minister need to come together in a national summit to discuss solutions.
”This summit must be the moment we start treating mental health care as health care.
That we clearly decide on who has responsibility to do what, and to get on with doing much more together,” adds Tory.
”When people are suffering and unable to receive adequate support, frequently they are left on our streets, on our transit systems, and in our emergency rooms to fend for themselves.”
