Premier Doug Ford says homecare, long-term care and hiring more nurses and doctors are among Ontario’s priorities under a possible new health-care deal with the federal government.

Speaking at an event related to the new Brampton School of Medicine, Ford says the province wants to connect more people with “convenient care.”

Premiers meet with the Prime Minister next month to negotiate changes to the Canada Health Transfer.

“I look forward to speaking with the Prime Minister and their team to come up with a program that again will be transparent, will always be accountable, and make sure that we have funding in different areas no matter if it’s hiring new nurses or doctors or working with us on the backlog surgeries, just to name a few.”

Ford says he believes they’ll reach a deal.

The premiers want to see Ottawa cover 35 % of health-care costs across the country, up from the current 22%.
