Ontario’s Green Party leader says he needs some time to think about a proposal from a group of Liberal party members asking him to consider a run as their next leader.
Mike Schreiner has issued a statement saying he hopes to talk with his constituents and get more feedback before making a decision. He also reiterated that he remains focused on working with people in the fight to protect the Greenbelt.
His statement comes a day after 40 Liberals wrote a letter to Schreiner over the weekend saying they are taking the unprecedented step to reach outside their ranks in an effort to find a leader.
The letter goes on to say that the Liberal party needs to rediscover a politics of purpose and principle, and for that reason, they say they are turning to Mike Schreiner.
Mike Schreiner was the first Green Party MPP to be elected in Ontario.
He has represented the riding of Guelph since 2018.
Over the past few months, he’s been disputing rumours that he might run for leadership of the Ontario Liberals.
Mike Schreiner joins Libby Znaimer on Zoomer Radio’s Fight Back Tuesday at 12:45pm.
