Tickets are still available for Hazel McCallion’s state funeral on Tuesday February 14th.
The iconic Canadian and legendary former Mississauga mayor continues to lie in state on Monday at Mississauga City Hall.
People may pay their respects from 11am to 7pm ahead of her state funeral Tuesday at Paramount Fine Foods Centre, on what would’ve been Hazel’s 102nd birthday.
Current Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie was among those who paid respects on Sunday, when there was a steady stream of people who came to stand beside Hazel’s casket and reflect.
“It’s so moving for me. It was so important to me that we send her off properly and give her the send off she deserved. She was our city’s matriarch and architect and beloved by one and all. This woman is truly iconic and a legend,” Crombie told reporters.
Known affectionately as “Hurricane Hazel,” McCallion developed a legacy of feisty advocacy during more than three decades as mayor of one of Canada’s fastest-growing cities.
