A Liberal MP rejects allegations that the Chinese consulate helped him win his seat in the 2019 federal election.

Liberal MP Han Dong

It’s been reported that the Canadian Security Intelligence Service  urged senior Liberal party staff to rescind Han Dong’s nomination in the Toronto riding of Don Valley North.

Speaking in Mississauga Monday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau rejected that the candidacy was rigged.

“I want to make everyone understand fully, Han Dong is an outstanding member of our team and suggestions that he is somehow not loyal to Canada should not be entertained.”

Meantime, despite calls for a public inquiry into alleged Chinese interference in both the 2019 and 2021 federal elections – including from the opposition and two former advisers to the Prime Minister – Justin Trudeau is resisting the idea.

“We’re all concerned and worried about our elections integrity and that’s why we’ve put in place mechanisms, why we continue to see hearings on this in parliamentary committee, it’s why we continue to be open and transparent,” said Trudeau speaking to reporters in Mississauga.
