Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, a close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, will be in Beijing for a state visit.

The three-day trip beginning Tuesday serves as a reminder that Russia’s conflict in Ukraine has far-reaching consequences for global alliances.

According to China, the visit is an “opportunity to promote the further development of all-around cooperation between the two countries.”

However, it comes as U.S. officials warn that China may send military aid to Russia.

China has dismissed the U.S. allegations as a smear campaign, stating that it is committed to promoting peace talks and accusing Washington and its allies of escalating the conflict by providing Ukraine with defensive weapons.
