Residential property owner have until the end of today to declare their 2022 occupancy status on the city’s Vacant Home Tax portal.
95% already have submitted this, however a vast majority of Toronto homeowners will not pay this tax.
Homeowners only need their property assessment roll number and customer number to do so.
Those can be found on the most recent property tax bill or the declaration notices that were mailed out late last year.
Once the portal closes, a Vacant Home Tax Notice of Assessment will be issued to those who declared their property vacant, as well as those who did not, and whose property has been deemed vacant.
The notices will go out at the end of March and show the amount owed; that’s calculated at a rate of 1% of the Current Value Assessment of the property.
