Nordstrom Canada’s e-commerce platform has been shut down as of Friday March 3rd, after yesterday’s announcement that the fashion retailer will close all of its Canadian stores, cutting 2500 jobs in the process.
In-store operations are expected to be completed by the end of June with the help of a third party liquidator.
Retail analyst Bruce Winder says don’t expect any big sales right away.
“You’ll start to see the products at a nominal discount, 20 to 30 percent off, not terribly exciting,” Winder explained to CP24, “Then as things start to sell, you’ll see 60 or 70 percent off, but usually by that time it’s later on in the spring and it’s usually the stuff that no one really wants.”
A statement from Nordstrom’s CEO issued Thursday says the closure is happening because they don’t see a realistic path to profitability for the Canadian business.
The company currently operates six Nordstrom stores and seven Nordstrom Rack stores in Canada.
