The world got to know him for his work in Norman Jewison’s 1971 mega hit “Fiddler on the Roof.”
Chiam Topol, the award winning Israeli actor has died.
After years of playing Tevye on stage in London and on Broadway, he scored the role of the charismatic milkman in the film, directed by Canada’s Jewison.
Topol (as he was known) received two Golden Globe awards and was nominated for both an Academy Award and a Tony Award over his long career.
In 2015, he was celebrated for his contributions to film and culture with the Israel Prize for lifetime achievement, that country’s most prestigious honour.
Chaim Topol was 87.
