The Mounties say they’re looking into two alleged covert police stations in Quebec; both in the greater Montreal-area, that they think are working on behalf of Beijing.
The RCMP confirms the locations under investigation are in Montreal’s Chinatown neighbourhood and in the municipality of Brosssard on the city’s South Shore.
A spokesperson says investigators are taking steps to ”detect and disrupt these criminal activities supported by a foreign state that could also threaten the safety of people living in Canada.”
”The RCMP recognizes that Canadians of Chinese origin are victims of alleged activities conducted by these (resource) centres,” adds Sgt. Charles Poirier.
Similar police stations have been detected in B.C. and Ontario; including three in the GTA – two in Markham and one in Scarborough.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the presence of Chinese police stations in this country is of enormous concern.
He adds the federal government’s making sure they’re investigated and taken seriously.
