The city’s integrity commissioner has found councillor Josh Matlow broke the code-of-conduct by criticizing two bureaucrats on social media before retaliating against one, after she filed a complaint.
In the first, Matlow accused former city manager Chris Murray of lying to him regarding the opening of washrooms a year ago.
In the second, the councillor referred to the newly appointed interim city manager Tracey Cook as the ”very wrong person” for the job.
Integrity Commissioner Jonathan Batty says Matlow violated the code-of-conduct, that states members must treat city workers appropriately and not engage in reprisal.
Batty recommends council suspend Matlow’s pay for 10-days.
Council will consider the commissioner’s recommendations at its meeting next week.
Matlow’s disputed the findings, has not apologized, but says he will ”work to ensure that senior staff are encouraged to provide their best advice to Council and all Torontonians, independent from political pressure.”
