All except nine of the province’s 625 nursing homes have air conditioning in the rooms of residents, nearly one year after the Ford government’s deadline.
Long-Term Care Minister Paul Calandra says three of the nine are expected to have units installed by the end of this month, three are on track to have A-C this summer, two homes have electrical capacity issues, however are being re-developed and will eventually have it.
The province has given those eight homes exemptions and recently fined a ninth one.
A law in 2021 required homes to install air conditioning in all residents rooms by last June.
The government recently passed regulations allowing it to issue higher fines to homes that are not in compliance.
