HE GOT HIS KICKS ON "ROUTE 66"

He was a stage trained actor with tough-hewn looks who became a Zoomer icon back in the 1960s as he cruised the U-S in a Corvette convertible in the TV series, “Route 66.”

George Maharis (above left) played Buz Murdock, a hardened survivor of New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen.  His co-star Martin Milner died in died in 2015.

Each week brought a new adventure in a new city for the pair on the highway John Steinbeck dubbed “The Mother Road” and inspired by Jack Kerouac’s novel “On the Road.”

Each new episode also featured future stars like Robert Redford, James Caan, Robert Duvall and Alan Alda in some of their earliest roles.

George Maharis has died of complications from a hepatitis infection.

He was 94.
