An American poet has won this year’s Griffen Poetry prize and the $130,000 that goes with it.
Roger Reeves took home the award last night in Toronto for his collection called “Best Barbarian.”
The 43-year old writer is based in Austin, Texas.
The jury praised his work for charting the “ruptures and violences enacted across time and space, particularly against Black humanity.”
Two Canadians, Susan Musgrave and Iman Mersal, took home $10,000 each for making the short list.
