Saying Toronto’s financial challenges are no longer sustainable, Doug Ford says he looks forward to working with Olivia Chow to build a strong Toronto and ensure it remains ”an economic engine for Canada.”
After their first face-to-face meeting since Chow replaced John Tory, the mayor says the city will need to partner with all levels of government.
”I look forward to working with the premier to help Toronto on a path towards financial stability for decades to come,” Chow adds.
Both are urging Ottawa to join the new-deal working group, that will be made up of public service officials from city hall and Queen’s Park, who’ll immediately begin working on delivering an agreement before the end of November.
A deal that both Chow and Ford say must protect frontline services, while avoiding new taxes and fees.
