The Chair and Vice-Chair of the TTC are proposing a massive transit expansion for the City of Toronto, funded by a property tax increase.
Karen Stintz and Glen de Baeremaeker are proposing a tax increase that would cost the average household and additional $45 a year. That would fund a $30-billion plan over 30 years that would add 175 kilometres of new transit: six subway lines, ten new LRTs, and five bus and streetcar routes.
The new subway projects would include extending the Yonge line north to Steeles, and joining the Yonge and Spadina lines.
The TTC will present the plan to City Council next month.
