It’s a bittersweet time for the Stratford Festival’s outgoing Artistic Director, Des McAnuff.

Just after the announcement that he had been made a Member of the Order of Canada, McAnuff’s Broadway production of “Jesus Christ Superstar” had to close because of poor attendance.

The production of the Andrew Lloyd Webber-Tim Rice rock opera was an instant hit when it debuted last summer at our own Stratford Shakespeare Festival.

But competition is fierce on on Broadway at the moment, and theatregoers have many shows to choose from, including McAnuff’s hit production of “Jersey Boys”, which is now in its seventh year.
