A tentative deal for the English Catholic Teachers Association will be the focus of comments expected today from leaders of four other teachers unions.

The province’s Catholic teachers broke ranks with their colleagues, which have refused to negotiate after the Ontario government pushed for a wage freeze.

A spokesman with the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario has called the government’s demands “insulting.”

Negotiators for the Catholic teachers agreed to a two-year wage freeze and three unpaid professional development days, which the government said would amount to a 1.5% pay cut.

English Catholic teachers still have to vote on the main terms of the agreement, but O’Dwyer expressed confidence that they will agree to it.
