“I’m basically shocked, dismayed, disheartened, upset and on occasions, angry, with the way this whole labour relations process has unfolded,” says Ken Coran, president of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation.  He is one of four union leaders who held a news conference this morning to voice disapproval of the tentative deal reached for the province’s english catholic teachers.  The agreement includes a wage freeze and other concessions for teachers.  Coran says strike votes have been scheduled in the event a deal is not reached by August.  He explained, “We’ve definitely educated our members so they’re aware of exactly what’s going on right now.  We’re taking strike votes beginning August 27th.  Those strike votes will continue until September the 7th.”  Both Coran and the other teachers union leaders are reassuring parents that school will begin as scheduled on September 4th. Negotiators with the Elementary Teachers Federation walked away from contract talks in late February, calling the government’s demands “insulting”.
