A decision from the Supreme Court of Canada will come as a major relief for schools across the country.
The High Court has ruled that photocopying material for students doesn’t infringe the Copyright Act.
Educational institutions currently pay millions of dollars for the right to make copies.
The decision is one of five rulings from the Supreme Court on copyright.
It also determined that Internet Service Providers don’t have to pay royalties to artists when music is downloaded, but that artists should be compensated when it is streamed online.
